“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michaelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, 'Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.”

Hello all,
My name is Huy Tran. I was born and raised in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam for 18 years. Since I was a kid, I have strong passions for learning new knowledge and applying those to solve problems. My main interests are, but not limited to, aviation, aircraft, spacecraft, automotive and biomedical devices. My goal since I came to the States is to apply my education through academia and industry to solve world challenges, especially in the aeronautical/ aerospace field. I hope one day I will be contributing in human space explorations. I am willing to diligently put in the work and to give all of my efforts to achieve my goal.
During the time in Vietnam, I am part of my high school Physics Olympiad Team. I won first place in City Physic Olympiad Competition in 2012 and bronze medal in Southern Vietnam Regional Physic Olympiad in 2013. I came to the United States in 2013 with hopes of learning knowledge that is more practical. I attended Salisbury High School in Connecticut from 2013 to 2016 and graduated as a school Valedictorian.
In 2016, I got accepted to the University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. I pursued a double major in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering with a minor in Material Science Engineering. Throughout my time at the University, I focused on a well-rounded engineering education with capability in designing, performing analysis and experiments through several projects, research, teacher assistant, tutoring, and internship. Please refer to my Experience and Leadership page or my LinkedIn for more details.
I graduated UVA with a GPA of 3.89 with a well-grounded capability in designing, performing analysis and researching.
In 2020, I decided to pursue a higher education. I will be working to get a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. My current focus is on multi-scale simulations of materials and structural mechanics and behavior under extreme conditions.
